Be cunning, play clever, and become versed in craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It's supposed that Sir William's horsemen enjoyed Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress's name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French headed down south and found refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is derived from the term for the bad luck throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. Many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps layout. He created the Don't Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
