Be clever, play smart, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps formed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the birth of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It's presumed that Sir William's soldiers wagered on Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the castle's name.

Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the English, the French moved south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It's believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the term for the bad luck toss of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. Most consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps layout. He added the Don't Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he established the spots for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
