Be brilliant, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is just about a century old. Modern craps developed from the ancient Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is presumed that Sir William's knights played Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the fortification's name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French moved down south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was gotten from the term for the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi scows and throughout the country. Most acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the modern craps setup. He put in place the Don't Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to not win. At another time, he invented the spots for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
