Be smart, play cunning, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games date all the way back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for sure the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William's horsemen bet on Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the castle's name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when expelled by the British, the French moved down south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It's believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was gotten from the name of the losing toss of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. A good many consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn assembled the modern craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
