Be cunning, play cunning, and become versed in craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps developed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William's knights bet on Hazard amid a blockade on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the castle's name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when displaced by the English, the French moved south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they a while later became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they took their preferred game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it mathematically fair. It's believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is gotten from the term for the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the country. Many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn designed the current craps layout. He added the Don't Pass line so players could wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he developed the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
