Be clever, play brilliant, and become versed in craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps come about from the 12th Century English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William's horsemen enjoyed Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortress's name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when exiled by the British, the French headed down south and located refuge in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It's believed that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is derived from the name of the bad luck throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi scows and all over the country. Many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In 1907, Winn designed the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. At another time, he created the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
