Be smart, play cunning, and discover how to play craps the correct way!

Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is presumed that Sir William's soldiers enjoyed Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was derived from the fortification's name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French relocated south and found refuge in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It's believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which was acquired from the name of the non-winning toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi barges and across the nation. A great many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn designed the current craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he established the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
