Be smart, play clever, and master craps the correct way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately 100 years old. Modern craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William's paladins enjoyed Hazard during a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the castle's name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 18th century, when expelled by the English, the French relocated south and located refuge in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it fair mathematically. It's believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and throughout the nation. A few acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn created the modern craps layout. He appended the Do not Pass line so players could bet on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
