Be smart, play clever, and discover how to play craps the right way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about 100 years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the 12th century. It is theorized that Sir William's knights wagered on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the castle's name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the British, the French relocated down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it fair mathematically. It's believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the nation. A great many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He put in place the Do not Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he established the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
