Be cunning, play cunning, and master craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps developed from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, around the 12th century. It's presumed that Sir William's horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was derived from the citadel's name.

Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when expelled by the English, the French headed down south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became known as Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which was derived from the term for the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and throughout the country. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps layout. He created the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the boxes for Place bets and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
