Be cunning, play smart, and master craps the ideal way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is just about a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. No one knows for certain the ancestry of the game, but Hazard is believed to have been created by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It's believed that Sir William's soldiers enjoyed Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was acquired from the fortification's name.

Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when driven away by the British, the French headed south and settled in the south of Louisiana where they at a later time became Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It's said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the bad luck throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, recognized as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. Most think the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In the early 1900s, Winn built the current craps setup. He added the Don't Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he established the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
