Be cunning, play clever, and pickup craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately one hundred years old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient English game called Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It's supposed that Sir William's horsemen gambled on Hazard amid a siege on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel's name.

Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French relocated down south and discovered sanctuary in the south of Louisiana where they eventually became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they brought their favorite game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns adjusted the title to craps, which is derived from the term for the losing throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi river boats and all over the country. A few consider the dice builder John H. Winn as the founder of current craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps layout. He created the Don't Pass line so gamblers can bet on the dice to lose. Later, he created the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
